What Is Part Of Speech?

a category to which a word is assigned in accordance with its syntactic functions. In English the main parts of speech are

• noun
• pronoun
• adjective
• determiner
• verb
• adverb
• preposition
•  conjunction
• interjection

For example

Ali is going to school.

The above-mentioned sentence is composed of different parts of speech.

• Ali-Noun
• Going-Verb
• To-Preposition
• School-Noun

Just like this, each and every sentence in the English language is composed of different parts of speech.

Noun-اسم

A naming word is called a noun.

کسی بھی چیز  ،جاندار، جگہ،اور جزبات  کا نام اسم یعنی(ناؤن) کہلاتا ہے

Example: Ahmad, Lahore, River, Table, Anger, Beauty

Example Sentences

Sentence	Noun
I live in Australia.	Australia
This is a table.	Table
Lion is dangerous.	Lion

Pronoun-اسم ضمیر

A word used in place of a noun to avoid repetition is called a pronoun.

ایسا لفظ جو اسم کی جگہ استعمال کیا جائے تا کہ اسم کو بار بار دہرایا نہ جائے۔

Pronouns Are:-

I, we , you, he , she ,it, they

Example Sentence

Ali is my friend. Ali lives in Lahore. Ali is hardworking.

Ali is my friend. He lives in Lahore. He is hardworking.

اوپر دئیے گئے فقرات میں بار بار علی استعمال کرنے کے بجائے ہم  نے اسم ضمیر کا استعمال کیا۔

Verb-فعل

A word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence.

کسی کام،حالت یا وقوع بتانے کیلئے استعمال کیا جاتا ہے۔

Go               جانا

Play           کھیلنا

We divide verbs into two categories:-

Action Verb	State Of Being Verb
ہمیشہ کسی کام کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔ Go, Play, Complete Example Sentences Ali goes to school. علی سکول جاتا ہے I will play cricket. میں کرکٹ کھیلوں گا۔ I have completed my homework. میں اپنا کام مکمل کر چکا ہوں۔	I am a student. میں ایک طالب علم ہوں۔ Ali is a teacher. علی استاد ہے۔ They are healthy. وہ صحت مند ہیں۔ The weather was pleasant. موسم خوشگوار تھا۔ You were stunned. تم حیران تھے۔ He will be confident. وہ پر اعتماد ہوگا۔

Adjective-اسم صفت

Words that tell us something(describe) about noun or pronoun is called adjective.

وہ لفظ جو کسی ناؤن  (اسم) یا پروناؤن (اسم ضمیر)کے بارے کچھ بتاتا ہے اسم صفت کہلاتا ہے۔مثلاَ  خصوصیت مقدار تعداد وغیرہ

ؑExample: Big, black ,tall ,cold ,Yellow ,Ten

Sentence	Adjective
I have ten rupees. میرے پاس دس روپے ہیں۔	Ten
It is very cold outside. باہر بہت سردی ہے۔	Cold
I have black paper. میرے پاس سیاہ کاغذ ہے۔	Black
He is tall. وہ لمبا ہے۔	Tall

Adverb-متعلق فعل

Word which add something to the meaning(modifies) an adjective or verb.

وہ لفظ جو اسم صفت یا فعل کے معانی میں کچھ اضافہ کرے  متعلق فعل (ایڈورب)کہلاتا ہے۔

Example: Beautifully ,slowly ,often, very , more , quite

Adverb With Verb	Adverb With Adjective
She writes beautifully. وہ خوبصورت لکھتی ہے	He very beautiful. وہ  بہت خوبصورت ہے۔
Ahmad walks slowly. احمد آہستہ چلتا ہے۔	This book is more interesting. یہ کتاب زیادہ دلچسپ ہے۔
I often meet ali. میں اکثر علی کو ملتا ہوں۔	It is quite hot . یہ کافی گرم ہے۔

Conjunction-حروف عطف

Word which joins together words ,phrases or clauses.

وہ لفظ جو مختلف الفاظ اور فقرات کو آپس ملاتے ہیں ۔

Some Common Conjunctions Are:-

And	اور
Or	یا
Before	پہلے
But	لیکن
Because	کیونکہ
If	اگر
Till	جب تک
When	جب

Example Sentences

Ali and Asif went to school.

علی اور آصف سکول گئے۔

I like milk but I don’t like tea.

مجھے دودھ پسند ہے لیکن میں چائے پسند نہیں کرتا۔

He is late because he missed the train.

وہ دیر سے ہے کیونکہ اس کی بس چھوٹ گئی۔

Interjection

Words that express sudden strong emotion are called .

وہ لفظ جو خوشی غمی یا حیرانی کے موقع پہ خود بہ خود منہ سے نکل جائے۔

Some Common Interjections:-

Hurrah!	آہا
Bravo	واہ یا شاباش
Alas	افسوس
Really	واقعی
Hush	خاموش
Oh	اوہو
Wonderful	زبردست

Example Sentences

Hurrah! We won the match.

آہا! ہم  میچ جیت گئے۔

Wonderful! I like your work.

زبردست! مجھے تمہارا کام پسند  آیا۔

Hush! Baby is sleeping.

خاموش! بچہ سو رہا ہے۔

Preposition-حرف جار

Word which express relation of a noun or pronoun to another noun , pronoun or element..

وہ لفظ ایک اسم یااسم ضمیر کا  تعلق کسی اور اسم،اسم ضمیر یاکسی بھی چیز سے ظاہر کرتا ہے۔

Some Common Prepositions:-

On	پر
In	میں
At	پر
Above	اوپر
Under	نیچے
Behind	پیچھے

Example Sentences

Birds were flying above us .

پرندے ہمارے اوپر اڑ رہے تھے۔

Pen is under the table.

قلم میز کے نیچے ہے۔

Ahmad is standing behind you.

احمد تمہارے پیچھے کھڑا ہے۔
