What is a sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
For Example
| I am Pakistani. | میں پاکستانی ہوں |
| Do you like to eat mangoes. | کیا تم آم کھانا پسند کرتے ہو؟ |
| Ahmad is playing cricket. | احمد کرکٹ کھیل رہا ہے۔ |
| I’m good at Cricket. | میں کرکٹ میں اچھا ہوں۔ |
| He lives in Karachi. | وہ کراچی میں رہتا ہے۔ |
Types Of Sentences
There are five types of sentences in English Grammar:-
- Assertive Sentences
- Interrogative Sentences
- Imperative Sentences
- Optative Sentences
- Exclamatory Sentences
What is an Assertive Sentence?-بیانیہ جملے
A sentence that gives some information. e.g about facts, opinions, and beliefs.
ایسا جملہ جو کسی چیز کے بارے میں معلومات دے۔جیسے حقائق،رائے،اور عقائد
For Example
| Ali eats mangoes. | علی آم کھاتا ہے |
| Faheem is a student. | فہیم ایک طالب علم ہے |
| The farmers plough. | کسان ہل چلاتے ہیں |
| They are not playing cricket. | وہ کرکٹ نہیں کھیل رہے ہیں۔ |
| He lives in Karachi. | وہ کراچی میں رہتا ہے۔ |
What is an interrogative sentence?
A sentence in which a question is asked.
ایسا جملہ جس میں کوئی سوال پوچھا جائے۔
| Does Ali eat mangoes? | کیا علی آم کھاتا ہے؟ |
| Is Faheem a student? | کیافہیم ایک طالب علم ہے؟ |
| Why do farmers plough? | کسان ہل کیوں چلاتے ہیں؟ |
| Are they not playing cricket? | کیا وہ کرکٹ نہیں کھیل رہے ہیں؟ |
| Does he live in Karachi? | کیاوہ کراچی میں رہتا ہے؟ |
What is an imperative sentence?
| Do not go there. | وہاں مت جاؤ |
| Turn on the tap. | نل کھولو۔ |
| Do not tell a lie. | جھوٹ مت بولو، |
| Speak truth. | سچ بولو۔ |
| Open the door. | دروازہ کھولو۔ |
What is an Optative Sentence? دعائیہ یا تمنائی جملے
A sentence which expresses a desire or prayer.
ایسا جملہ جو خواہش یا دعا کا اظہار کرتا ہے۔
| May you live long! | خدا تمہاری عمر دراز کرے! |
| Would that I were rich! | کاش میں امیر ہوتا! |
| May you succeed in life! | خدا آپ کو کامیاب کرے! |
| May your team win the match! | آپ کی ٹیم میچ جیت جائے! |
| Would that she were my wife! | کاش وہ میری بیوی ہوتی! |
What is an Exclamatory Sentence? استعجابیہ جملے
A sentence that expresses strong emotions.
ایسا جملہ جس میں جزبات کا اظہار پایا جائے۔
| Hurrah! We have won the match | آہا!ہم میچ جیت گئے۔ |
| Bravo! Go ahead. | شاباش! آگے بڑھو |
| Really! I do not believe it. | واقعی! مجھے یقین نہیں آتا۔ |
| Alas! They have lost the match. | افسوس! وہ میچ ہار گئے۔ |
| Hush! The baby is sleeping. | خاموش بچہ سو رہا ہے۔ |
